It puts the Claude API in your terminal — send messages, manage agents and sessions, upload files, and script against every API endpoint.\n\n![Demo of the ant CLI](.github/demo.gif)\n\n## Documentation\n\nFull documentation is available at **[platform.claude.com/docs/en/api/sdks/cli](https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/api/sdks/cli)**.\n\n<!-- x-release-please-start-version -->\n\n## Installation\n\n### Homebrew\n\n```sh\nbrew install anthropics/tap/ant\n```\n\n### Go\n\nTo install from source, you need [Go](https://go.dev/doc/install) version 1.22 or later.\n\n```sh\ngo install 'github.com/anthropics/anthropic-cli/cmd/ant@latest'\n```\n\nThe binary is placed in `$(go env GOPATH)/bin`. If `ant` isn't found after installation, add that directory to your `PATH`:\n\n```sh\n# Add to your shell profile (.zshrc, .bashrc, etc.)\nexport PATH=\"$PATH:$(go env GOPATH)/bin\"\n```\n\n<!-- x-release-please-end -->\n\n## Getting started\n\nLog in with your Claude Console account:\n\n```sh\nant auth login\n```\n\nOr set the `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` environment variable to an API key from the [Claude Console](https://platform.claude.com/settings/keys).\n\nThen send your first message:\n\n```sh\nant messages create \\\n --model claude-opus-4-8 \\\n --max-tokens 1024 \\\n --message '{role: user, content: \"Hello, Claude\"}'\n```\n\nStructured flags accept relaxed JSON or YAML, so unquoted keys are fine.\n\n## Usage\n\nThe CLI follows a resource-based command structure, with nested resources separated by colons:\n\n```sh\nant <resource>[:<subresource>] <command> [flags...]\n```\n\n```sh\n# List available models\nant models list\n\n# Browse a response in the interactive explorer (the default in a terminal)\nant models retrieve --model-id claude-opus-4-8\n\n# Extract a single field from a response, jq-style\nant messages create \\\n --model claude-opus-4-8 \\\n --max-tokens 1024 \\\n --message '{role: user, content: \"Hello, Claude\"}' \\\n --transform content.0.text --raw-output\n\n# Send a file using the @path syntax\nant messages create \\\n --model claude-opus-4-8 \\\n --max-tokens 1024 \\\n --message '{role: user, content: [\n {type: image, source: {type: base64, media_type: image/jpeg, data: \"@photo.jpg\"}},\n {type: text, text: \"What is in this image?\"}\n ]}'\n\n# Manage beta resources such as agents, sessions, and files\nant beta:agents list\n```\n\nRun `ant --help` for the full list of resources, or append `--help` to any command to see its flags.\n\n## Requirements\n\nmacOS, Linux, or Windows.\n\n## Contributing\n\nSee [CONTRIBUTING.md](./CONTRIBUTING.md).\n\n## License\n\nThis project is licensed under the MIT License. The package conforms Claude to the framework's `LanguageModel` protocol, so you drive it with the same `LanguageModelSession` API you use for Apple's on-device model — `respond(to:)`, streaming, guided generation, and tool calling all work the same way.\n\n> **Beta.** This package targets the Foundation Models server-side language model API introduced in the OS 27 betas. APIs may change before general availability.\n\n## Contents\n\n- [Requirements](#requirements)\n- [Installation](#installation)\n- [Quick start](#quick-start)\n- [Example](#example)\n- [Choosing a model](#choosing-a-model)\n- [Authentication](#authentication)\n- [Streaming](#streaming)\n- [Structured output](#structured-output)\n- [Server-side tools](#server-side-tools)\n- [Error handling](#error-handling)\n- [What this package provides](#what-this-package-provides)\n- [Support](#support)\n- [License](#license)\n\n## Requirements\n\n- iOS 27, macOS 27, visionOS 27, or watchOS 27 (beta) — the OS releases whose Foundation Models framework supports server-side language models.\n- Xcode 27 (beta).\n- An Anthropic API key for development. See [Authentication](#authentication) for production options.\n\n## Installation\n\nAdd the package to your `Package.swift`:\n\n```swift\ndependencies: [\n .package(url: \"https://github.com/anthropics/ClaudeForFoundationModels.git\", from: \"0.1.0\")\n]\n```\n\nOr in Xcode: **File ▸ Add Package Dependencies…** and enter the repository URL.\n\nThen add `ClaudeForFoundationModels` to your target's dependencies and import it alongside `FoundationModels`:\n\n```swift\nimport FoundationModels\nimport ClaudeForFoundationModels\n```\n\n## Quick start\n\n```swift\nimport FoundationModels\nimport ClaudeForFoundationModels\n\nlet model = ClaudeLanguageModel(\n name: .sonnet5,\n auth: .apiKey(ProcessInfo.processInfo.environment[\"ANTHROPIC_API_KEY\"] ?? \"\")\n)\n\nlet session = LanguageModelSession(model: model)\nlet response = try await session.respond(to: \"Plan a 4-day trip to Buenos Aires.\")\nprint(response.content)\n```\n\n`ClaudeLanguageModel` is the entry point. Pass it to `LanguageModelSession` and use the session exactly as you would with any Foundation Models provider.\n\n## Example\n\n[`Examples/ClaudeExample`](Examples/ClaudeExample) is a runnable command-line target that streams one chat turn through `LanguageModelSession` to the terminal, with token usage at the end (running it requires a macOS 27 host):\n\n```sh\nANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<key> swift run ClaudeExample \"What should I see in Kyoto?\"\n```\n\nPass `--search` to enable server-side web search for the turn:\n\n```sh\nANTHROPIC_API_KEY=<key> swift run ClaudeExample --search \"Top spaceflight news this week?\"\n```\n\n## Choosing a model\n\nModel identifiers are values of `ClaudeModel`. Use a compiled-in constant, or construct one with explicit capabilities for an ID that isn't compiled in yet (see [Capabilities](#capabilities)):\n\n```swift\nClaudeLanguageModel(name: .opus4_8, auth: auth)\n```\n\nConstants mirror API model IDs (`.opus4_8` is `claude-opus-4-8`) and carry each model's capabilities. New models ship as new constants in package releases.\n\nDateless model IDs like `claude-opus-4-8` (the 4.6 generation onward) are pinned snapshots, not evergreen pointers — the model behind an ID doesn't change underneath you.\n\n### Capabilities\n\nEach model declares what it accepts — sampling parameters, effort levels, adaptive thinking, structured output, and image input. The bridge uses this to decide which request fields to send, since sending a field a model rejects is a hard error. The constants carry the right capabilities. For an ID that isn't compiled in, declare what the model accepts:\n\n```swift\nlet model = ClaudeModel(\n id: \"claude-experimental-x\",\n capabilities: .init(effortLevels: [.low, .high], structuredOutput: true)\n)\nClaudeLanguageModel(name: model, auth: auth)\n```\n\n### Effort\n\nPin a Claude effort level for every request with `fixedEffort:`. It takes precedence over the framework's per-request reasoning hints. The API defaults to `high` when no effort is sent:\n\n```swift\nClaudeLanguageModel(name: .opus4_8, auth: auth, fixedEffort: .xhigh)\n```\n\nThe framework's reasoning levels map to effort per request: `.light` → `low`, `.moderate` → `medium`, `.deep` → `high`, and `.custom` accepts a Claude effort name directly (`\"xhigh\"`, `\"max\"`). Levels a model doesn't accept are dropped — a reasoning level is a hint, not a contract.\n\nThe level must be one the model accepts — each model declares which of the five levels (`low`, `medium`, `high`, `xhigh`, `max`) it takes.\n\n## Authentication\n\nSet the credential with the `auth:` parameter.\n\n```swift\n// Development. A bundled key is extractable from a shipping app — use one of\n// the production options below before release.\nClaudeLanguageModel(name: .sonnet5, auth: .apiKey(\"...\"))\n\n// Production via your own backend. The relay at `baseURL` adds the credential\n// server-side; the app ships no key. `headers` are sent on every request so the\n// proxy can authorize the caller — pass `[:]` if it needs none.\nClaudeLanguageModel(\n name: .sonnet5,\n auth: .proxied(headers: [\"X-App-Token\": \"...\"]),\n baseURL: URL(string: \"https://api.yourapp.com/claude\")!\n)\n```\n\n**Coming soon:** a production mode that doesn't require running your own backend — each app install authenticates with App Attest and usage is billed to your Anthropic workspace. Until that ships, use `.apiKey` for development and `.proxied` for production.\n\n## Streaming\n\n`streamResponse(to:)` returns the response incrementally. Each element is a cumulative snapshot:\n\n```swift\nlet stream = session.streamResponse(to: \"Summarize today's top science stories.\")\nfor try await partial in stream {\n print(partial.content)\n}\n```\n\n## Structured output\n\nAnnotate a type with `@Generable` and request it with `generating:`. Zero compiler-specific dependencies — the frontend,\nSSA-based IR, optimizer, code generator, peephole optimizers, assembler,\nlinker, and DWARF debug info generation are all implemented from scratch.\nClaude's C Compiler produces ELF executables without any external toolchain.\n\n> Note: With the exception of this one paragraph that was written by a human, 100% of the code and documentation in this repository was written by Claude Opus 4.6. A human guided some of this process by writing test cases that Claude was told to pass, but never interactively pair-programmed with Claude to debug or to provide feedback on code quality. As a result, I do not recommend you use this code! None of it has been validated for correctness. Claude wrote this exclusively on a Linux host; it probably will not work on MacOS/Windows — neither I nor Claude have tried. The docs may be wrong and make claims that are false. See [our blog post](https://anthropic.com/engineering/building-c-compiler) for more detail.\n\n## Prerequisites\n\n- **Rust** (stable, 2021 edition) — install via [rustup](https://rustup.rs/)\n- **Linux host** — the compiler targets Linux ELF executables and relies on\n Linux system headers / C runtime libraries (glibc or musl) being installed\n on the host\n- For cross-compilation targets (ARM, RISC-V, i686), the corresponding\n cross-compilation sysroots should be installed (e.g.,\n `aarch64-linux-gnu-gcc`, `riscv64-linux-gnu-gcc`)\n\n## Building\n\n```bash\ncargo build --release\n```\n\nThis produces five binaries in `target/release/`, all compiled from the same\nsource. The target architecture is selected by the binary name at runtime:\n\n| Binary | Target |\n|--------|--------|\n| `ccc` | x86-64 (default) |\n| `ccc-x86` | x86-64 |\n| `ccc-arm` | AArch64 |\n| `ccc-riscv` | RISC-V 64 |\n| `ccc-i686` | i686 (32-bit x86) |\n\n## Quick Start\n\nCompile and run a simple C program:\n\n```bash\n# Write a test program\ncat > hello.c << 'EOF'\n#include <stdio.h>\nint main(void) {\n printf(\"Hello from CCC!\\n\");\n return 0;\n}\nEOF\n\n# Compile and run (x86-64)\n./target/release/ccc -o hello hello.c\n./hello\n\n# Cross-compile for AArch64 and run under QEMU\n./target/release/ccc-arm -o hello-arm hello.c\nqemu-aarch64 -L /usr/aarch64-linux-gnu ./hello-arm\n```\n\nCCC works as a drop-in GCC replacement. Point your build system at it:\n\n```bash\n# Build a project with make\nmake CC=/path/to/ccc-x86\n\n# Build a project with CMake\ncmake -DCMAKE_C_COMPILER=/path/to/ccc-x86 ..\n\n# Build a project with configure scripts\n./configure CC=/path/to/ccc-x86\n```\n\n## Usage\n\n```bash\n# Compile and link\nccc -o output input.c # x86-64\nccc-arm -o output input.c # AArch64\nccc-riscv -o output input.c # RISC-V 64\nccc-i686 -o output input.c # i686\n\n# GCC-compatible flags\nccc -S input.c # Emit assembly\nccc -c input.c # Compile to object file\nccc -E input.c # Preprocess only\nccc -O2 -o output input.c # Optimize (accepts -O0 through -O3, -Os, -Oz)\nccc -g -o output input.c # DWARF debug info\nccc -DFOO=1 -Iinclude/ input.c # Define macros, add include paths\nccc -Werror -Wall input.c # Warning control\nccc -fPIC -shared -o lib.so lib.c # Position-independent code\nccc -x c -E - # Read from stdin\n\n# Build system integration (reports as GCC 14.2.0 for compatibility)\nccc -dumpmachine # x86_64-linux-gnu / aarch64-linux-gnu / riscv64-linux-gnu / i686-linux-gnu\nccc -dumpversion # 14\n```\n\nThe compiler accepts most GCC flags. Unrecognized flags (e.g., architecture-\nspecific `-m` flags, unknown `-f` flags) are silently ignored so `ccc` can\nserve as a drop-in GCC replacement in build systems.\n\n### Assembler and Linker Modes\n\nBy default, the compiler uses its **builtin assembler and linker** for all\nfour architectures. No external toolchain is required. You can verify this\nwith `--version`, which shows `Backend: standalone` when using the builtin\ntools.\n\nTo build with optional GCC fallback support (e.g., for debugging), enable\nCargo features at compile time:\n\n```bash\n# Build with GCC assembler and linker fallback\ncargo build --release --features gcc_assembler,gcc_linker\n\n# Build with GCC fallback for -m16 boot code only\ncargo build --release --features gcc_m16\n```\n\n| Feature | Description |\n|---------|-------------|\n| `gcc_assembler` | Use GCC as the assembler instead of the builtin |\n| `gcc_linker` | Use GCC as the linker instead of the builtin |\n| `gcc_m16` | Use GCC for `-m16` (16-bit real mode boot code) |\n\nWhen compiled with GCC fallback features enabled, `--version` shows which\ncomponents use GCC (e.g., `Backend: gcc_assembler, gcc_linker`).\n\n## Status\n\nThe compiler can build real-world C codebases across all four architectures,\nincluding the Linux kernel. Projects that compile and pass their test suites\ninclude PostgreSQL (all 237 regression tests), SQLite, QuickJS, zlib, Lua,\nlibsodium, libpng, jq, libjpeg-turbo, mbedTLS, libuv, Redis, libffi, musl,\nTCC, and DOOM — all using the fully standalone assembler and linker with no\nexternal toolchain. Over 150 additional projects have also been built\nsuccessfully, including FFmpeg (all 7331 FATE checkasm tests on x86-64 and\nAArch64), GNU coreutils, Busybox, CPython, QEMU, and LuaJIT.\n\n### Known Limitations\n\n- **Optimization levels**: All levels (`-O0` through `-O3`, `-Os`, `-Oz`) run\n the same optimization pipeline. Separate tiers will be added as the compiler\n matures.\n- **Long double**: x86 80-bit extended precision is supported via x87 FPU\n instructions. On ARM/RISC-V, `long double` is IEEE binary128 via\n compiler-rt/libgcc soft-float libcalls.\n- **Complex numbers**: `_Complex` arithmetic has some edge-case failures.\n- **GNU extensions**: Partial `__attribute__` support. You bring it online by implementing seven small functions in `agent.py`, each a single Claude Managed Agents API call — until it can grep a 70k-line log in its sandbox, call your local tools, and name the bad commit.\n- [`agent-battle/`](./agent-battle) — *Agent Battle*: a 45-minute competition to configure a Claude Managed Agent — system prompt, skills, MCP servers, model — that drives a local game bot over MCP. APIs may change before general availability.\n\n## Contents\n\n[Contents include Requirements, Installation, Quick start, Example, Choosing a model, Authentication, Streaming, Structured output, Server-side tools, Error handling, and License sections...]\n```\n\n## 4. claudes-c-compiler\n\n```\n# CCC — Claude's C Compiler\n\nA C compiler written entirely from scratch in Rust, targeting x86-64, i686,\nAArch64, and RISC-V 64. Zero compiler-specific dependencies — the frontend,\nSSA-based IR, optimizer, code generator, peephole optimizers, assembler,\nlinker, and DWARF debug info generation are all implemented from scratch.\nClaude's C Compiler produces ELF executables without any external toolchain.\n\n[Includes prerequisites, building instructions, quick start examples, usage documentation, and status of the compiler with known limitations...]\n```\n\n## 5. cwc-workshops\n\n```\n<!-- Copyright 2026 Anthropic PBC -->\n<!-- SPDX-License-Identifier: Apache-2.0 -->\n\n# cwc-workshops\n\nWorkshop materials.
