Book I.

From my grandfather Verus I learned to be gentle and meek.

Book II.

Begin the morning by saying to thyself, I shall meet with the busy-body,
the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial.

Do not then wonder that figures which are fashioned are changed.

Book IV.

Go into thyself first.

The universe is transformation; life is opinion.

Book V.

At dawn of day, when thou risest unwillingly, let this thought be present: I rise to the work of a human being.

Book VI.

Accept the things to which fate binds you.

Book XII.

All that thou seest will quickly perish, and those who have been spectators of its dissolution will very soon perish too.
